Boise State University has dedicated a memorial wall to Bethine Church in the Student Union Building.
The wife of former Idaho Senator Frank Church, Bethine was born into a politically active family and remained a prominent figure in Idaho politics throughout her life. In partnership with her husband, she earned the nickname of “Idaho’s third senator.” She was actively involved in Frank Church’s four campaigns for the senate and his campaign for the presidency in 1976.
Bethine, who attended Boise Junior College, later claimed the founding of the Sawtooth Society and the Frank Church Institute at Boise State as her proudest accomplishments. She died on Dec. 21, 2013, at the age of 90.
Frank and Bethine Church’s son, Chase Church, is a graduate of Boise State. Chase’s son, Andrew, and daughter, Monica, are current students.
