About the Dispute Resolution Certificate Program

The Dispute Resolution Certificate Program integrates skill development in areas such as conflict management, negotiation and mediation with relevant theory and research. Students have two options to complete the twelve-credit program. (1) Currently, almost all our students pursue the Life Skills Focus. (2) Because of very limited internship opportunities, a few of our students pursue the Mediation Focus.

  • The Life Skills Focus requires students to take Conflict Management; six credits selected among Basic Mediation, Negotiation or Culture & Conflict; and three credits of Dispute Resolution workshops.he Dispute Resolution Certificate Program integrates skill development in areas such as conflict management, negotiation and mediation with relevant theory and research. • The Mediation Focus requires students to take Conflict Management, Basic Mediation Skills and three credits of Dispute Resolution workshops. Additionally, this focus requires two credits of Internship, where students apply their skills in the small claims and civil mediation programs conducted at the Ada County Courthouse. This focus also requires students to pass a one-credit Competency Assessment course during which they mediate cases while being observed by an expert. (Please refer to the Internship and Course Offerings sections for more information about internships and competency assessment.)
  • Note: Students must complete either an associate or baccalaureate degree before they can be awarded a Dispute Resolution Certificate.
