Craig Jones

Fall 2016
CraigJones@u.boisestate.edu

Education:
BBA in Economics from Boise State
MPA – Environmental and Natural Resources Policy Emphasis from Boise State

Research Interests: I will be focusing my research on energy policy, especially as it relates to the role of science in policy making and concepts of energy justice. I am fascinated by how competing worldviews, values, and truth claims dominate public discourse and the impact this has on energy policy, not to mention all of us who are affected by it. How should decisions be made in such an environment? How should they be justified? As others have pointed out, tortured statistics will confess anything and often do. This seems an apt summation of energy policy. Yet, decisions must be made and supported. My goal is to shed light on this fascinating dynamic and provide original thought on a pathway forward.

Migratory Bird Treaty Act is now live! Of the first magnitude BirdWatching magazine, August 2016: Birdwatching Daily Featured Story

Research Interests: I would like to bring the natural resource policies of federal public land agencies and state wildlife agencies more in line with the current values of the American people. Society has moved strongly in the direction of non-consumptive uses, but policies are stuck in the consumptive realm of past generations. This will require new research on values, and new proposals in political arenas.
