The Master of Public Administration Association (MPAA) is a student organization at Boise State University. Members include all students enrolled in an MPA class during the academic year.
To develop a community and social network of MPA students, faculty, and alumni who can potentially enhance the educational experience of students.

What is Pi Alpha Alpha?
Pi Alpha Alpha is the national honor society for students, alumni, faculty, and honorary members in public affairs and administration. Pi Alpha Alpha was founded at National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration in 1974. There are currently 130 active chapters with membership exceeding 30,700. The charter class of the Boise State University chapter was inducted on May 2, 1996.
Pi Alpha Alpha sponsors an online journal publishing excellent papers by students in public affairs and administration courses. Manuscripts are peer reviewed by PAA members. Six volumes of the journal may be viewed on the NSPPAA (formerly known as NASPAA) Website.
What are the purposes of Pi Alpha Alpha?
“The purposes of this Society shall be to encourage and recognize outstanding scholarship and accomplishment in public affairs and administration, to promote the advancement of education and practice in the art and science of public affairs and administration, and to foster integrity, professionalism, and creative performance in the conduct of governmental and related public service activities.” (PAA Handbook, 65)
Who is eligible for Pi Alpha Alpha membership?
MPA students who have completed approximately half (22 credits) of their masters program (45 credits total) and have a GPA of 3.7 or better in their graduate course work are invited to join Pi Alpha Alpha. They receive lapel pins and certificates, and may choose to purchase a Pi Alpha Alpha medallion and/or honor cord to wear during commencement exercises.
In addition, Pi Alpha Alpha membership may be extended to alumni, faculty, and other persons who demonstrate academic achievement and/or outstanding public service. All memberships are national memberships with local chapter affiliation.
New Pi Alpha Alpha members are inducted to the Boise State chapter at the annual Spring Awards luncheon.
The purpose of this organization shall be to provide an educational environment for our members; provide mediation services to the Boise State University community; provide education services to our members and the community about Alternative Dispute Resolution; provide a positive environment for interaction and social growth.
